Stage 1 · Records
Requested and read in advance.
Four services, all consultant-led and provided privately.
Reading the file before the appointment rather than during it changes what the appointment can achieve. It means the time is spent on your questions and on examination rather than on someone catching up — which is why we ask for records in advance and will reschedule rather than see you without them.
Requested and read in advance.
History and examination.
Explained, with alternatives.
To you and your GP, promptly.
All prior records and imaging.
Formed before meeting you.
Including when it agrees.
Reasoning set out for you and your GP.
A second opinion is not a search for a different answer. Most confirm the original, and that confirmation is genuinely useful. Where we disagree we will say so plainly and explain why, and we will never criticise a colleague's management simply to appear decisive.
Private medicine has an incentive to investigate broadly. We order what will change a decision and say so when a test would simply produce an incidental finding to worry about. Where your problem belongs with a different specialty we refer you, which is sometimes the most useful thing a consultation produces.
What a test would actually answer.
With costs made clear first.
In a conversation, not a letter alone.
Onward where another specialty fits.
Scope and questions agreed.
Declined if it is not.
Reasoned, to CPR requirements.
Opinion not altered to suit.
The overriding duty of an expert is to the court, not to whoever instructs or pays. An opinion will not be shaded to suit a case, and we will decline instructions where the question falls outside our specialty — a report outside an expert's competence helps nobody and damages the claim it was meant to support.
Send a short enquiry. We will tell you honestly, including when we are not.
